The San Antonio River Walk

The Fodor's guidebook I purchased for San Antonio, Austin, and the Texas Hill Country suggested that the San Antonio River Walk was the #1 "ultimate experience" for any visitor to the region. The River Walk is San Antonio's #1 tourist attraction and stretches one story below street level for 15 miles on the side of the San Antonio River, which cuts right through the heart of the city, and provides pedestrian access to streets and buildings that cross and border the River Walk. You can also take boat trips on the river if you like.

So after the Alamo, I ventured a few blocks down to the River Walk and took about a stroll on the River Walk for about an hour before heading back to my hotel for a late checkout. It was indeed everything they said it was, and even more. I was blown away by the sheer beauty and ingenuity of the River Walk. It's a priceless civic amenity for the people of San Antonio, and I could only wish that Philadelphia had something even close to it.
