Fredericksburg, Texas

After a light and free breakfast in the hotel, I drove into Fredericksburg to do a walking tour of the town and to get some more information from the Visitor Center. Fredericksburg is in the heart of the Texas Hill Country and represents the remote rural countryside of Central Texas. It is also home to growing suburban neighborhoods and affluent retirement communities and is very touristy. Because it was early, most of the shops were closed and all I did was walk around the town center and the Main Street.

Fredericksburg was settled by German immigrant pioneers and has a distinctly Germanic feel with lots of German restaurants dotting the Main Street. The German bakery I was hoping to stop in was closed on Thursdays so I was out of luck. Fredericksburg is also home to the National Museum of the Pacific War. I skipped the museum as I would have likely needed more than a few hours to really get my money's worth, and I wasn't in the mood for another war museum. I snapped a few photos on my walk about the town.
