Big Bend National Park, Day Two: Boquillas Canyon Trail

After re-entering Big Bend from Mexico, I decided to check out a different canyon hike - the Boquillas Canyon Trail. This trail is a few miles down the road from the Border Crossing. It climbs from a parking to the top of a cliff overlooking the Rio Grande, and then continues down to the edge of the Rio Grande and into the canyon until the canyon walls meet the river where it's impossible to go any farther.

It's a 1.4 mile roundtrip hike and is fairly flat and easy. It was very hot and about three in the afternoon (and I probably should have skipped the hike for that reason alone), but stupid me loaded up with lots of water and I made out to the canyon and back. On my return, I immediately guzzled a Gatorade electrolyte drink. As an aside, on the hike in I passed the same three guys who I had passed coming down on the Lost Mine Trail hike in the morning. Smart (or dumb) minds think alike.
