Big Bend National Park, Day One: Lower Burro Mesa Pour-off Trail

One of the hikes I did during my drive on the Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive was the 1-mile roundtrip Lower Burro Mesa Pour-off Trail. This easy trail leads through a gravel drainage and ends in a narrow box canyon where water has carved a deep channel into Burro Mesa. The end of the trail is at the base of a 100-foot pour-off.

A young couple from Austin, Texas who I had met during a few of my other stops along the scenic drive (I promised them I wasn't stalking them!) were at the end of the trail when I arrived. They happily took my photo and I took theirs since their time-lapse photo shoot wasn't working out too well.
