Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum
My first stop of the day was the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, really more of a zoo and an outdoor park than a museum per se. The 98-acre Desert Museum was founded in 1952, and is described on its website as "a fusion experience: zoo, botanical garden, art gallery, natural history museum, and aquarium." The Desert Museum is regularly listed as one of the top ten zoological parks in the world due to its unique approach in interpreting the complete natural history of a single region (the Sonoran Desert and adjacent ecosystems).
I got there early (about 8 am) to beat the heat, but it was still approaching 100 degrees! I saw lots of cacti, and some lizards, a mountain lion, bighorn sheep, a turtle, and lots of rattlesnakes (all behind glass in the reptile room). All in all, it was an enjoyable and educational visit.
Here are some pics of the visit.
